Bus service in Croatia is generally considered very good; there are frequent bus connections to more or less any small town or village across Croatia. After the completion of the new motorways, travelling by bus also became more popular between larger cities like e.g. Zagreb and Split, Zadar and Rijeka. If you are on a tight budget you should definitely consider bus transportation due to the fact that buses are inexpensive in Croatia, compared to other means of transportation.
During high tourist season in Croatia, usually the summer months, it is advisable to buy tickets in advance, especially when travelling to and from larger cities. When buying a single ticket most routes will offer a discounted return ticket as well. Private bus companies operate the majority of intercity bus routes.
