A short history of Pazar

Split's main outdoor market was not always in its present location. According to the Split Tourist Board, the market originally occupied the square now known as Voćni trg, or Fruit Square.

As Split expanded, the city needed a larger marketplace and Pazar moved to the eastern side of Diocletian's Palace. It remains one of the central gathering places of everyday Split, which is why locals still refer to it simply as Pazar.
