Kašjuni Beach is one of the most scenic places to swim in Split, set in a broad pebble bay beneath the southern slopes of Marjan Hill. Located about 3 km west of the city centre, it combines clear water and a relatively natural setting with seasonal beach facilities.

Kašjuni is particularly good for travelers who want a proper swimming beach away from the busy city-centre waterfront. The main trade-offs are the pebble shoreline, limited parking and the extra journey from central Split.

What is Kašjuni Beach like?

Kašjuni is a long pebble and shingle beach surrounded by the rocky, wooded landscape of Marjan. The bay opens toward the Adriatic but is partly sheltered by its shape and breakwater, creating good swimming conditions on calm summer days.

The sea is usually clear and becomes deep enough for proper swimming, making Kašjuni more appealing to confident swimmers than Split's shallow sandy Bačvice Beach.

The shoreline is made up of pebbles and small stones rather than sand. Water shoes are useful, especially for children or anyone who finds pebble beaches uncomfortable underfoot.

Facilities at Kašjuni Beach

Kašjuni has seasonal facilities during the main beach season, including sunbed or chair rental and a small fast-food café. You can also simply bring a towel and use the public beach without renting beach furniture.

The facilities are more limited than at a large resort beach such as Žnjan, so bringing drinking water, sun protection and anything else you need for several hours at the beach is still a good idea.

Commercial services are seasonal, so visitors outside the main summer period should not assume that food, drinks or beach-chair rental will be operating.

Swimming at Kašjuni

Swimming is the main reason to come to Kašjuni. The bay is large enough for longer swims and the water is often exceptionally clear, particularly when the sea is calm.

Entry is over pebbles and stones, and conditions vary slightly along the beach. Families with small children may prefer the gentler sections of the main bay, while stronger swimmers can take advantage of the deeper water farther offshore.

As at any Adriatic beach, sea conditions can change with wind and weather, so use normal caution and supervise children closely.

Is Kašjuni Beach good for families?

Yes. Kašjuni is popular with families, particularly those who prefer clear water and a spacious pebble beach to the busier urban atmosphere of beaches closer to central Split.

There are a few practical trade-offs. The shore is pebbly, natural shade is limited in parts of the beach, and parking can be difficult in peak summer. Bringing water shoes, sun protection and your own beach supplies makes a family visit much easier.

Shade at Kašjuni

Trees around the edges of the bay provide some natural shade, but much of the main beach is exposed to direct sun.

In July and August, arrive early if finding a naturally shaded spot is important. Otherwise bring a hat, sunscreen and suitable sun protection for the hottest part of the day.

Dog-friendly beach at Kašjuni

A separate dog-friendly beach is located immediately beside the main Kašjuni Beach and is separated from the regular swimming area by rocks.

This allows visitors with dogs to swim away from the main family beach. The dog section is more basic than the principal beach, so bring water and anything your dog needs for the visit.

Naturist beach at Kašjuni

Kašjuni also has a designated section for naturist bathing. The FKK area is separated from the main part of the beach and is marked with a sign.

Travelers using the main family beach therefore do not need to treat the whole of Kašjuni as a naturist beach; it is a specific section of the bay.

Getting to Kašjuni Beach

Bus 12 from central Split

Bus number 12 is the main public-transport option for Kašjuni. The route connects the western side of central Split with the Marjan beaches, including Kaštelet and Kašjuni.

Under the current 2026 traffic arrangement, line 12 is temporarily turning around at Kašjuni. Because access arrangements around Marjan can change, check the current Promet Split timetable before travelling.

For most visitors staying in central Split, the bus is one of the easiest ways to reach the beach without worrying about parking.

Walking to Kašjuni

Kašjuni can also be reached on foot and combines naturally with a visit to Marjan Hill.

If you are already walking or cycling around Marjan, descending to Kašjuni for a swim is an excellent way to finish the route. Walking from central Split is also possible, but it is a substantial walk rather than a quick trip to a city beach, particularly in summer heat.

Getting there by taxi

A taxi or rideshare is a convenient alternative if several people are travelling together or you are carrying beach equipment. Kašjuni is close enough to central Split that the journey is normally straightforward outside periods of heavy summer traffic.

Parking at Kašjuni Beach

There is parking close to Kašjuni, but the number of spaces is limited compared with the beach's popularity.

Parking can fill quickly in July and August, particularly from late morning onward. If you are driving, arriving earlier in the day is much more practical than expecting to find a convenient space around lunchtime.

Bus 12, a taxi or rideshare is often the easier option during the busiest part of summer.

Best time to visit Kašjuni Beach

Morning is the best time to visit in July and August if you want easier parking, more choice of places on the beach and cooler temperatures.

Late afternoon is another good option. The heat is less intense, the beach remains attractive for swimming and the western side of Split gets pleasant evening light.

June and September are particularly good months for Kašjuni if you want warm-weather swimming with less pressure on the beach than during the busiest weeks of July and August.

Kašjuni Beach or Bačvice Beach?

Kašjuni and Bačvice offer very different beach experiences.

Kašjuni Bačvice
Beach type Pebble and shingle Sand
Swimming Better for deeper swimming Very shallow water
Setting Natural Marjan backdrop Urban city beach
From Old Town Bus, taxi or longer walk Easy walk
Best for Swimming, scenery and a longer beach day Convenience, shallow water and combining beach time with sightseeing

Is Kašjuni Beach worth visiting?

Kašjuni is one of the best choices in Split if you want clear water, a scenic Marjan setting and enough depth for proper swimming. It feels much more like an Adriatic beach destination than the small urban beaches immediately beside the city centre.

It is less suitable if you specifically want sand, extensive resort facilities, guaranteed shade or easy parking directly beside the beach.
