Hotel Imperial Hilton is the oldest hotel in Dubrovnik and it's construction was a major event for Croatian tourism. It is located next to Pile gate, west entrance to the Old Town Dubrovnik and opposite to the famous Lovrijenac fort.
Originally, the hotel had only two floors, the third was built in 1930's and two more during a big reconstruction in 1987. As one of Dubrovnik's symbols, it took a lot of damage during December 6th (hardest attack on Dubrovnik during the Homeland War in 1990's) when the hotel was hit with incendiary projectiles which caused catastrophic fire. The hotel completely burned down.
It took a decade before someone started renovating. In 2000. in the Sponza palace a deal was signed between Atlantska plovidba, Strabag Zagreb and renown hotel chain Hilton international. Hotel has been beautifully restored by and brought back into much of its former glory.
